From idea to production in 5 months — a configurable insolvency workflow engine with AI document recognition, legal templating, and an integrated case communication layer.

The Challenge

Insolvency practitioners operating across multiple jurisdictions in Eastern Europe face a problem that generic case management software does not solve well: every country has different procedures, different document requirements, different filing protocols, and different timelines. A tool that works for a Romanian insolvency procedure does not map neatly to a Hungarian or Bulgarian one.

Insolvio — insolvency workflow platform

The practitioners who commissioned Insolvio.io needed a platform that could model different insolvency procedures as configurable workflows — not hard-coded process flows — with a document generation engine powerful enough to produce jurisdiction-specific legal documents, and an audit trail robust enough for court scrutiny.

What We Built

Configurable workflow engine. The core of Insolvio.io is a workflow engine that models insolvency procedures as configurable stage sequences, each with its own required actions, document triggers, deadlines, and approval gates. Practitioners can configure workflows for different procedure types without code changes — new procedure types are added through the admin interface, not a deployment.

Legal document templating. A powerful templating system generates jurisdiction-specific legal documents from case data — pulling in the correct statutory language, party details, dates, and case-type-specific clauses based on the procedure type and language. Documents are version-controlled and auditable.

AI document recognition. Incoming filings — PDFs, scanned documents, and structured electronic submissions — are processed by an AI recognition layer that extracts key entities (parties, dates, case references, amounts) and automatically creates or updates the corresponding case record. This removes the manual data entry that previously consumed significant practitioner time.

Built-in email client and automatic filing. Every email sent or received in relation to a case is captured and stored against the case record automatically. Practitioners work from within Insolvio.io rather than switching between their case management system and email client — every interaction is in the case file, accessible for audit.

How We Delivered It

The project ran with a small, senior team over five months. AI was used deliberately for the parts of the build where it adds genuine speed without compromising quality:

• Skeleton code and service scaffolding for the workflow engine and integration layers

• Repetitive data model generation for the case, document, and filing entity schemas

• Integration scaffolding for the email client and document storage connectors

Domain modelling — how insolvency procedures are represented, what the workflow states mean legally, what the document templates must contain — was done entirely by humans with domain expertise in close collaboration with the practitioners who would use the platform. Legal logic and QA were held tightly by the team throughout.

The result is a platform that handles genuine legal and procedural complexity correctly, because the parts that required judgment were never delegated to an AI.

The Outcome

Insolvio.io went from initial scope to production in five months. The platform is now in active use by insolvency practitioners managing cases across multiple Eastern European jurisdictions, with the workflow engine handling procedure types that could not have been modelled in any off-the-shelf case management system.

The AI document recognition layer has substantially reduced manual case creation from incoming filings — a task that was previously the most time-consuming part of the intake process.
